what is this?

hum a line, watch it draw

Hum Fourier is the voice half of Slow Fourier. Slow Fourier turns a drawn line into sound. Hum Fourier runs the same mathematics the other way: hum a note, and a line draws itself from your voice. Stop humming and the pen lifts.

Nothing is scored. There are no accounts. Your voice never leaves your phone.

how it works

pitch is the size, tone is the shape

Every steady sound is a stack of circles — a fundamental and its harmonics. Hum Fourier listens for yours: the pitch of your hum sets the size of the big circle (low hums draw big, high hums draw small), and the tone of your voice — how strong each harmonic is — sets the smaller circles riding on it. The pen traces where they all add up, one turn every six seconds: the pace of a slow breath.

When you're done, sing it back rebuilds your voice from the recipe the line captured, so the drawing hums you back.

the name

hum, then Fourier

Slow Fourier is the hand. Hue Fourier is the eye. Hum Fourier is the voice. Three ways into the same circles — and the only one you can do with your eyes closed.

the microphone

why it asks, and what it does

The page needs your microphone to hear you, so your browser will ask once. The audio goes straight into the drawing math on your device and nowhere else — it isn't recorded, stored, or sent. Microphone access only works on a secure page, which is why Hum Fourier lives at an https address.

Your voice never leaves your phone.

No accounts, no scores, no tracking, no recordings. Only the line remains — and only if you keep it.
